NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is intended for all individuals regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation.
This is a traditional, instructor-led course where you will receive direct instruction from an NRA-certified instructor from beginning to end.
Course topics include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor.
Eye and Electronic ear protection (like the Howard Leight Impact Sport- see the “Equipment we Recommend Page) is highly recommended. We do have loaners if you need eye and ear protection.
If you have your own firearm and bring it , a cleaning kit is required.
NO LIVE AMMO
We will be excusively shooting .22 caliber. If you own your own .22 Semi Auto, please feel free to bring it and some ammunition and we will use your gun for the range portion.
If you don’t have your own .22 Caliber Semi-Auto, we will provide one for you to use.

Dave is the lead instructor for Civilian Defense Concepts and brings over a quarter of a century of training experience to the table. He is currently an NRA Training Counselor (pistol, rifle, shotgun, home firearms safety, CCW), NRA Refuse to be a Victim instructor (crime prevention course), NRA Chief Range Safety Officer, an NRA LE Certified Instructor (pistol, patrol rifle, and shotgun), Sig Sauer Academy Certified Semi-Auto Pistol Instructor and a graduate of their Master Pistol Instructor and Pistol Mounted Red Dot Optics Instructor programs. He is also a Taser, Pepper Spray, Munio Self Defense Keychain, AVERT and ALERRT active shooter response instructor, Mental Health First Aid Provider instructor, First Aid/CPR/AED instructor, and Advanced Bleeding Control/Stop the Bleed certified instructor. He believes in a holistic approach to self defense and he will be bringing many of these programs to the club.
